Add Keyword in Title: Include ONLY our main keywords. The least amount of words you can place in the title, the more weight Google will give to each of the keywords and the higher you will rank.
You are most likely familiar with header tags. They look like this H1.The header tag is like your title content. It must be as close to the top of the page as possible and contain the keywords.
For the sub heading H2you want to get your second most important key word in. This too should be as close to the top as possible.
Keyword Density: It is the percentage of the number of times the keyword or keyword phrases appear as compared to the number of words in a particular webpage. Try to mention each keyword in a natural way as you are writing
Yahoo is partial to text consisting of keywords in bold or italics. Bold depicts that it is strong in meaning and the italics refers to emphasis. This is in reference to the tags found in the body or the posts in bogs.
How you prepare your image tags is important as well. These are ALT and they are the description for the search engine to know what the image is. Without overdoing it try and get the keyword into the image description as well.
Most sites will have hyperlinks of some type and they usually all have some form of visible text attached to them. This is the anchor text.
Your Urls are very important as search engines take a look at the words used in these as well. So make sure you use URLs that you can include your keywords in.
Link structure: If the navigation menu of a website is structured then the visitors will navigate the website with just few clicks. It is necessary for the consumer. This also helps the search spiders to get several links to follow.
There is some speculation that Search Engine Optimization on page is not as apt to achieve the same results as off page SEO.

While I agree on the points mentioned here, I want to add the enhancement of internal linking structure to the whole picture.
Using keywords at the anchor text of the links pointing to the most important pages of your site can be a big boost to your search engine rankings.
