Few Considerations If You Plan Keep Up With Your Running Routine In The Winter

Written by Michael Taylor on June 1st, 2010

It’s not something that you always think about but running in the winter provides a whole new set of challenges that you don’t see when running in the warmer months. Here are several things to consider when the weather starts getting colder and you want to continue your running routine.

1. One of the most important things to consider is your clothing. You may warm up a bit as you run, but it’s still important to wear layers of clothing that will protect you from the very low temperatures that can come with winter. Dressing improperly for these kinds of temperatures can ruin your exercises before you even start. In addition to wearing the right clothes to keep you warm, they should also be in bright or dark colors.

Avoid wearing white clothing in the winter. It can cause you to blend in with the snow, which can obscure you from the vision of drivers much like dark clothing does at night.

2. Pick the right shoes for the situation. Your winter running shoes should have good traction to keep you from slipping on ice or other smooth surfaces. To add a little more protection you may want to attach an anti-slip device that will give your soles even more grip.

3. When starting out, run into the wind. By the time you’re nearing the end of the run, the wind will be at your back and it won’t make you as cold.

4. Even though you’re not getting as hot or sweating as much as if you were running in the summer, you still need to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Make it a point to drink water before, after, and even during your workouts, if possible.

5. Be sure to always carry some form of identification with you in case you get injured while running. You may also want to carry some money on you for a bus or a cab in case conditions get too bad and you’re forced to stop running.

6. Even when the weather is too bad to take a run outside, you can still get a workout on the treadmill. You can even make the best out of the situation by visiting the weight room for a cross training routine.

In addition to winter activities, the author also regularly shares knowledge regarding wall mounted soap dispenser and wall mounted soap dish.
